With the HR 20 we have developed a reel that is perfectly tailored to the needs of catfish anglers. This innovative product has revolutionized the reel sector in the catfish sector and is finding more and more fans who can no longer imagine fishing for their target fish with stationary reels or sea multis. The HR 20 hangs like a stationary reel under the catfish rod, which results in optimal weight distribution. Our reel is extremely stable and compact at the same time. The large line capacity and the high line retraction per crank revolution are further advantages that have never been available in this combination before.
If you think about the topic of catfish reels when fishing from stand, you will quickly realize that you can't avoid the HR 20. But why does our reel offer you so many advantages over all other models available on the market?
The HR 20 is the first reel that was specifically designed for catfish fishing and for boat fishing. Competitors sell reels that are generally made for sea fishing and market them only as catfish reels. Before the HR 20 appeared on the market, catfish anglers had to deal with numerous problems.
Disadvantages of large conventional multi-reels: Marine multi-reels lying on top have to be balanced with a lot of effort by the catfish angler during the fight so that the rod does not tip over. Cranking is usually a very shaky affair and the cord also has to be laid at the same time. That doesn't make handling any easier. In addition to the general problem with weight distribution, you also have to open your hand a little to get your thumb on the line. During a hard fight, it is almost impossible to grip the catfish rod firmly and securely.
Large multi-reels were made for sea fishing with fighting belts, as well as special rods with Phillips end caps. This automatically keeps the reel up during the drill. However, when catfish fishing you don't use a bulky fighting harness, which is why many catfish anglers deliberately turn their rods with sea multis and crank them backwards. Although this can avoid the problem of weight distribution, there are other disadvantages. The drag can no longer be operated properly, the line runs too close to the foregrip and due to the missing reel foot, the rod can no longer be gripped at the height of the reel. Furthermore, cranking backwards is a very tricky affair, which makes even fast gear ratios useless.
Conclusion: Large conventional multi-reels simply have no place when it comes to catfish fishing!
However, a large stationary reel is not a real alternative to the HR 20. When laying out the line, you have to constantly brake it with two fingers with the bail open. The pressure that can be exerted on the assembly is very limited. But especially when tensioning in fast-flowing waters or with flotsam, it is extremely important to keep the line above the surface of the water throughout the entire deployment process. The further the interpretation is, the bigger the problem becomes. What makes it even more difficult is that the line jerks extremely when it runs over the edge of the spool. The entire rigging process is so annoying that many catfish anglers have even seen conventional multi-reels, with all their disadvantages, as an alternative.
With HR 20 you are no longer faced with the decision of hardship versus misery. We have combined the handling of a stationary reel that hangs under the rod with the advantages of a multi-reel. However, we went one step further and integrated a special extension function into the HR 20's braking system. This allows you to set precisely how much you want to slow down the line when laying it out. You can completely remove your fingers from the spool or line. This means you can fully concentrate on steering your outrigger boat when driving back to the fishing spot. The extension function allows you to quickly and easily adjust the pressure exerted on the line at any time. Painful braking of the line with your fingers is now finally a thing of the past.
For reasons of robustness, because of weed flags and pollen in the line and also to enable fast deployment speeds, we deliberately decided against automatic line guidance. This wouldn't be necessary with the HR 20 anyway, as the cord moves almost by itself. If you're fishing at long distances, all you have to do is give it a quick tap every now and then with your index finger. Compared to conventional multi-rolls, you can achieve a clean wrapping pattern much more easily. After all, it's much easier to get to the line with your extended index finger than with your thumb. You can see your reel in front of you at all times during the drill or when retrieving the rig and can intervene if the spool becomes too full on one side.
This is how the innovative braking system of the HR 20 with extension function works (please note the graphic!):
The interaction between the brake lever (L for LEVER) and the brake adjusting wheel (PK for Pre-Set Knob) is responsible for the brake pressure. In practice it looks like this:
1. Freewheel
The line drain is completely loose. You rarely need this position.
2. Laying out position
The lever (L) engages at the level of the three marking lines. You can now use the adjusting wheel (PK) to set the ideal brake pressure for design.
3. Braking area
The more you push the lever (L) downwards, the more brake pressure is applied to the coil. You preset the brake using the adjusting wheel (PK). This is easiest to do when the lever (L) is in the upper braking area. After laying out, you have to slightly readjust the presetting by briefly turning the adjusting wheel (PK), depending on how the laying out function was set. In the drill you only work with the lever (L).
TIP: We recommend that you do not fill the role completely. This means there are no problems if you have to go quickly during the fight and you don't lay the line exactly. You can also add Snag Leader at any time .
